Is This Your Child?
Homework Takes Forever to Start
They sit down, open the assignment, then stare at it. Twenty minutes later… almost nothing has happened.
Small Tasks Feel Huge
Even a five minute assignment somehow feels impossible to begin.
Constant Reminders
You feel like you’re always saying, “Just get started.”
Task initiation isn’t laziness. It isn’t a lack intelligence.
For many students, getting started is the hardest part.
The good news is that this is a skill that can be taught and strengthened.
What Is Task Initiation?
Task initiation is the executive function skill that helps us move from thinking about a task to actually beginning it.
Many students know exactly what needs to be done.
They simply struggle to take that first step.
